Adopt a block 

Be part of a team that brings the love of Jesus right to the doorsteps of our community! Through Adopt-A-Block, volunteers visit local neighborhoods to build relationships, offer prayer, share resources, and invite families to be part of something greater. It’s a simple way to show kindness, meet real needs, and remind people they are seen and loved. Come ready to serve, listen, and make a lasting impact, one block at a time.

Join us as we come together to serve our community through a warm meal and a heart of compassion. Our Community Meals are more than just food; they're a chance to connect, listen, and share the love of Christ with our neighbors. Volunteers are needed to help cook, serve, greet guests, and pray with those who come. Whether you’re handy in the kitchen or simply have a smile to share, there’s a place for you to serve.

Let’s make a difference, one meal, one conversation, and one act of kindness at a time.

We have the opportunity to serve our unhoused friends and surrounding neighbors with a meal and most importantly connections and building relationships through Bread and Water Ministries.

All meal prep will happen at home. The location we will meet at is the Wells Bridge Pass (Under). It is where 4th and wells street cross.

We serve at the Reno Sparks Gospel Mission on the 4th Thursday of the month!

We gather, pray and prepare to serve at 4:45. Dinner is served from 5:00 to 6:00.

Our tasks can vary based on how many people are volunteering that night (and any special requests from RSGM, ie. Christmas in July) but this is sample of what we do:

Dish up plates with the evening's meal. Hand out meals to guests. Hand out beverages. Hand out dessert. Gather and dispose of completed plates. Clean tables for next round. Talk and/or pray with guests as you feel comfortable.

When meal is over:

Wipe down tables and chairs Place chairs upside down on tables.

The time goes by very quickly and they are always very appreciative for the assistance. We are usually out of there by 6:15.

Spread the Word Nevada is a children’s lit­er­acy non­profit cor­po­ra­tion, ded­i­cated to advanc­ing early child­hood lit­er­acy by plac­ing books into the hands and homes of chil­dren within Nevada low income com­mu­ni­ties. While devel­op­ing a love of read­ing, these libraries pro­mote future aca­d­e­mic achieve­ment and self-confidence, which impacts life long success. You can help by cleaning books onsite or helping in the warehouse.

Prepare a hot meal for the Teen Challenge boys. The event includes enjoying dinner together and a fun activity like playing trivia or other games together. There is only availability to host volunteers or a community group on Friday and Saturday nights. 

There is also an opportunity to purchase items from the Teen Challenge grocery wish list to stock their freezer and pantry. This will involve pooling funds, shopping for food, and delivering the items. If you would also like to assemble hygiene kits or back-to-school supplies, please contact them for their needs.

A coalition of churches providing loving homes for children in foster care, Foster the City recognizes there’s a shortage of foster homes in Washoe County. If even a fraction of churches in northern Nevada raise up one Foster Family with a team of Support Friends, there will be more than enough families to meet the need. Together, we are working toward the day when the list of children waiting for a home will be replaced with a list of families waiting to share their homes.

Would you like to help with Foster the City, but are unable to be a Support Friend? Our foster families have other needs each month that we would love to share with you.
